Yesterday I wrote a post cautioning WishList Member users from hastily upgrading to WordPress 3.1. Since then I heard from Wray at WishList Member who said they have seen no problems with their plugin running on the new platform.
I don’t mean to sound like a tree hugger, but experience (often quite painful) has taught me to make sure all the pieces work together before making a change.
However he said that their membership site (WishList Insider) does not run on 3.1 because they haven’t seen a good reason to upgrade. He said they generally wait until one or two minor releases (like 3.1.1) that usually follow right behind a major release. These are typically for bug fixes and security patches.
I think those are wise words. Just because something is the newest or latest does not mean it’s best solution for your business. If you depend upon your site is an integral part of your business use caution when making any software change.
That said, there are some nice features in 3.1 and a minor annoyance. I’ll do a couple short videos about these in the near future.
