I was as surprised as everyone else to see the WordPress 2.9.2 upgrade the other day. I’ve been so busy working in client sites that I haven’t kept up with the up-to-the minute WordPress news (it changes every few hours).
Sine then I’ve received numerous phone calls and e-mails asking what it’s all about and whether it’s OK to upgrade.
The purpose of the new version is to fix a security bug discovered in 2.9.1. WordPress added a new Trash option to posts and pages in 2.9 which I’ve come to like. It turns out that if you have registered users (which all membership site owners do) they had the ability to see the contents of the trash bin regardless of their access level. The new version fixes this bug.
So should you upgrade? If you have registered users, absolutely. If not, then wait until next time.
I upgraded all of my sites (membership and otherwise) plus several clients’ without a hitch. If you choose to upgrade always backup first.
